She's Gotta Have It

I just don't know what it is. It's like I'm compelled to buy yarn...and sometimes shoes...but mostly, lately its been yarn. Its not like I need yarn. There already isnt enough time for me to use the yarn that I do have. Last count I had better than 35 different yarns in my stash. Thanks to ravelry, I now know exactly what I have and what I can do with it. Gotta love it. And I am making plans for almost every single skein.

But there is something about buying yarn. Its an almsot sensual, sensory experience. The colors, the touch, and oh the possibilities. Not quite unlike buying shoes. What can I say, I am a yarn whore.

Monkey See

Well one pair of socks down. Made them for a friend. So who told me that you should block socks. Monkey has a lace element, and it looked a bit bunchy, so I felt that the best solution would be to block. So how do you block socks? I didnt know so I felt some garbage bag stuffing to shape might work. Needless to say it did, but now the socks look like the could fit Sasquatch. But they actually fit. Well they fit my feet at least.

My friend was a good sport, either she feigned joy really well, or she genuinely adored them. Either way, happy wearing! Its on to Sock pattern numero two for me...decisions, descisions.

Jamaican Grey

So who knew, Kool-aid had such a flavor as Jamaica Punch. And what would one expect as a color from such an auspicious name. Well Red of course. But mixed with my grey wool, its more a burgundy.

The yarn is hanging out to dry (haven't snapped a pic of that yet). I only tried it on one skein that was half on the needles half in the skein. Of course there are streaks, but who knows that may work in my favor.

Nothing like a little kool-aid to cure a little boredom

I may have mentioned the tons of grey wool that I got at a bargain basement price, oh so many years ago that has been languishing in the bottom of my stash bin. Well, after I made my solemn vow to my husband that I would put this wool and most of my stash to use before purchasing new, I earnestly started what I thought was going to be my first top down sweater of my own phenominal design. Right.

Needless to say 3 months later, I hate it. I hate the sweater and I hate the yarn. So off to the frog pond it goes. But, alas, what to do with sooooooo much grey wool? An afghan? Oh no not for this lazy knitter. Hmmm...what to do, what to do. Experiment with kool-aid. Yes! Yes! why not.

Sock-a-Palooza

Ok its sock time. Last time I knit socks was back in 2005. Knit my first pair toe-up since the thought of turning a heel and gussets seemed daunting. It was a great success, my husband loves and treasures them. Gives me a warm and fuzzy that he does. My second sock was knit with just as much love, but for a reason I wish had never happened. My son was hit by a car while riding to school and I knit the sock to cover his toes. Just the one. I wonder if he still has it.

But moving on. I did enjoy knitting the socks. I learned provisional cast ons, and shortrows and was looking forward to knitting more, but alas...I didn't. But I did buy tons of sock yarn.

Kiri Shawl - The End

Kiri came off the needles last night. It was a nice pattern once you got into it. Easy to remember not terribly difficult to master. The yarn worked well. It looks yummy and does its name "cream caress" justice. It knit up a bit thicker than I would want for a lacey effect, but it is soft and warm and I love it. Of course, it still has to be blocked. We'll leave that for another day.

Feeling Froggie

Ok, spent the weekend going through my stash. Found some things I started way back when. Like this beautiful wrap sweater Ivy on knitty. I thought I could do it. Bought my yarn, a beautiful alpaca green. Finished the back...which I now realize is not knitted to guage, and was on to one of the sides. For some reason or another, as these things always are, I put it down, lost my place, lost interest, hands hurt or whatever. But now, a year later and no offence to the sweater, I have no deisre to complete it. I must also add, that I have since realized that wrap styles dont really suit my body type. My boobs always defy the wrap to close in a flattering way. So gonna frog this one. As to what I will do with this beautiful yarn, don't quite know yet. I see some socks in the not too distant future. But for now its off to the stash bin.
